British Bespoke Auctions saw some top hammer prices at auction on 28th February across the board, attracting bidders from all over the world! Nicholas Granger took to the auction stand with his pet macaw Bella for the second auction of the year.
The top lot of the sale, with an estimate of £1,000-1,500, was a Royal Worcester vase and cover painted by John Stinton with Highland Cattle in a misty Scottish landscape (Lot 185), sold for a fantastic £4,200 to a telephone bidder. The collection of Royal Worcester Fallen Fruits also saw top prices; a pair of cabinet plates painted by Harry Aryton (Lot 204) sold for £1,100, and a pair of oval dishes painted by Harry Aryton (Lot 200) sold for £1,900 – over 9 times top estimate! Overall, the porcelain and pottery category achieved over £27,000!
Another item of note in the sale included Lot 24, a 19th Century Chinese Imperial Blue Silk Embroidered Cloak, with embroidered gilt metallic five claw dragons amongst ruyi clouds, bats and eternal knot motifs, with an estimate of £200-300. Strong online bidding against a telephone bidder resulted in a hammer price of £2,600 to the phone bidder.
The militaria selection in the sale saw top hammer prices throughout, with Lot 53, First Polish Armoured Division Medals and Ephemera with an estimate of £80-120 sold for £1,700 to an online bidder. Lot 46, Victorian South African Zulu Wars Campaign Medal with 1879 bar sold for above estimate at £600.
